All at once,

The world exhales, life inhales.
The mathematical perfection of our heart beat, the harmony of the birds and bats who sing songs to the rhythm of the sun and moon. We are one with all things, we are biologically dependent on one another because of this unity.

When we stop saying how angry and hurt we are, and listen to one another, truly focused on the power we have to use our experiences to grow and not fester… we realize we aren’t so different after all.

“Bone of my bone, flesh of my flesh”.

In times of terror, our humanity, our HEART, wields the greatest power. That of attunement, passion, that of love.
That of acknowledging shortcomings of our neighbours as we’ve seen in ourselves, and applying graceful sternness in redirection.

I love exploring different cultures, and indigenous wisdom teaches how every plant and animal has a purpose. We exist as part of an intelligent system, there are so many uses for everything that surrounds us. 🌵

Julia had been trying to get a hold of me for years, but I was never long in LA.

She had this vision she explained to me, a photo story in a space I know so intimately, Nature. She wanted us to create a reminder of our roots in this industry. “Everything you do, is art.”
She told me, and I couldn’t help but smile.
“Life is art, I’m just grateful to be an extension of that”.

When we shot this beauty cover, she wanted to see me wrap my hair, to wear traditional African styles, to embrace my own core.

“Can you think of a name for this beauty story?”
She asked.
The way Jamaica greeted me when I arrived to the island came to mind.
“Na-tral beauty!”
They said warmly, everyone with a big smile, and that essence felt right.

“I feel ‘Natural Beauty’ ”, I told her.
And so it was.

Harmony, is beauty.
That’s all nature strives for, so we feel better when we are more in tune.

To be an extension of God, as we all are, is the most blessed gift. Sometimes we forget that however- when we reconnect to the depths of ourselves, in that deep silence where the wind in the leaves sounds like rain, we hear the music of life that sings beyond the confines of the hypercritical mind.

Remember who you are.
Our oneness is like that of the ocean.
Many drops, a single body.
We are all deeply interconnected.

“We always have a choice of fear or faith, however, the two cannot coexist. One lends itself to our purpose, and the other has nothing but a negative effect on the health of the body, mind and progression of our soul.

In the face of our greatest challenges there is always a solution, or simply nothing we can do except for allow the painful period to pass as we learn and practice patience. Either way, opting to worry or be inundated with fear offers no service.

As outlandish as it may seem, worrying truly is a choice. When we abide by solution-based thinking and move in full faith that everything is working to teach us, we ask more questions about what we can learn from situations, rather than literally making ourselves sick with worry. Anything that is on your path opposing or challenging you, is your teacher.
Figure out how.”

Femininity is the key to a whole and healed world. Here are 3 key tips to inviting more of this energy into your life.

1. Slow down.
Even just a little bit. Ask yourself if you really have to eat so fast, to race out of the door, plan for more time so you can move more slowly, and things start to make more sense because you can hear your intuition better when you’re not in emergency mode. Speak more slowly, inhale before you respond, conscious though is the precursor to wise decisions.

2. Dress in a way that makes you feel good.
Having to constantly adjust clothing, wearing things that are too tight, too big, or so revealing you can’t have peace in public will disrupt your flow. Attention comes to beauty either way.

3. Remind yourself that you are safe.
Affirmations work wonders, figure out what you need to hear and write it down. Speak these things to yourself daily and in moments of panic.

There may have been a time when you had to be very hard and strong in situations, but now you are older with the space to grow. Building walls may keep people out… but remember it also imprisons you. There are safe, healed, and whole people who are happy to know you.

Softness is not weakness.
Water still has the capability to give and take life, we are quiet strength.

I spoke for @dove x @sheamoisture at BETX about “Beauty Beyond the Mirror”, the depths of our inner beauty, and the Crown Act which was passed to allow natural (textured/Afro-descent) to be worn without discrimination in the workplace.

I got the call that week to feature as a panelist- on the other side of the country, and said yes before my team had a clear map to execute.

The how isn’t as important as your determination… where there’s a will, there’s a way.

This whole thing was a whirlwind, and it fanned a deeply seeded ember into a flame for me.
I’m so grateful for my community, and to represent not only the beauty and diversity of our hair… But the beauty and diversity of our spirit and people as one humanity as well.

Thank you again to everyone involved, it truly takes a village. 🤎

I don’t drink (there’s not some long traumatic back story, it just tastes terrible and I never have 100% HP after) I’m able to relax into myself and my surroundings at will because I’ve come to know myself well.

Since making that decision in life, I’ve learned a lot about assumptions people make when you say that sort of thing, as well as how others feel judged, when I’ve cast none at all am just doing what I want to do. What we think others are thinking of us is often what we are subconsciously thinking of ourselves.

In anything we do, it should be in the interest of becoming our best selves.
We’re all on our own journeys and time takes each of us on different routes. For someone today, that may actually be drinking to land on a particular path they may not have found otherwise. Life works in strange ways.

With this decision, I have been in many environments where I have to reiterate I will not be drinking, and in spite of the disappointment of others (temporary) I go home hydrated, happy, and if the music was good, happy that I got to dance 💃🏾(lasting). More than that, I go home feeling so good that I stick to my own beliefs, and knowing that when I set a boundary, I’m standing on business!
I trust myself to show up even when there is tension from others, and this is a muscle!

Your confidence comes from the moments you show up for yourself, and decide that you respect yourself enough to do the things that are temporarily challenging, so you can have lasting joy.

Choose the courage to have self-discipline, do the hard things, and your heart blossoms. 🌹
